I once had a professor who said that the founding fathers:

a). did not trust common people to make good decisions - and that has carried thru in our style of government today.

b). Many of their considerations were based on the fact that they had invested a good portion of their wealth and in fact their lives into this country and needed to be assured that it would succeed and they would be compensated.

The beginnings of this country were rife with religions intolerance. That is one of the myths I think that continues to thrive. We would never have had the witch trials if not for religious persecution. It was merely a different name and place.

I believe we need to make decisions that benefit the majority. But that is my own personal belief. And - to answer Jorj's post to me on the other thread.. ;o)...if I were stupid enough to move to Afgahnastan, I certainly would not expect them to bend their own culture to accomodate mine. If a condition of living there were to convert to Islam, I simply would not go. And I don't understand what is wrong with that. Either their right to preserve their culture - OR my right to choose stay with like minded individuals in my own.

In any case, it's great that we can discuss it so freely and have differing opinions isn't it ;o)... Thanks for your input btw and Happy Trading. Long live the capitalist pig <G>
