Larry short Interest is normally the 15th of the month unless that is not a trading day as was the case for June.

Short Interest for VLNC june 14 2002 was 4,451,181 up a little from the previous month.

nasdaq.com

Which brings up one of my pet beefs. Why is short interest only compiled monthly and then only published almost 2 weeks later when it is almost useless?

In 2002 there are devices called computers which could provide this information real time to all investors without any additional cost to the SEC, NASDAQ or the brokers IF THEY WERE REALLLY INTERESTED in providing a level playing field. They could even mark all short sales on level 2 and time and sales data real time as they were executed if they wanted. Now that would make the shorts transparent; the longs are always exposed, so why not the shorts?
