Yes. The "political" basis for UMTS (the dirty little secret is that this is W-CDMA) is the European attempt at what the communists call "hegemony".

There has never been and certainly is not now any reason for choosing UMTS (that laughingly called "universal" MTS)beyond the drum beat of all the PR systems in place to promote it.

Sure there is a huge GMS "base". OK, so then what?

GSM1x is more efficient in using that base than U (lets laugh together on that label)MTS.

Time will tell, and within a year or two.

But as we have seen, the US East Coast press and "media" rely on Reuters (the "service" which Wall Street uses for news and data) - yet Reuters seems to not have "sources" for accurate CDMA 2000 reporting or Reuters is simply putting its mouth where its source of money is.
