Ben G. After reading the rather cryptic reports of the proceedings of the standards body to solve the Sync Channel problem, thus allowing the peak 1X data rate to jump from 156Kbps to 307Kbps I have developed the strong feeling that the delay is more of a stall that a total technical disagreement. QCOM apparently submitted a workable solution in Sept 2001. Yet the two sides or at least one side seems quite readt to "cut the baby into two pieces" thus killing early introduction rather than adopt thesolution. Perhaps the explanation is that the GSM/WDCMA group just doesn't want 307Kbps 1X competing against non-existant W-CDMA and GSM. Perhaps they want to buy time for W-CDMA to ripen before unshackeling 307 kbps 1X

Do you have an opinion of what motivates the participants at the standards bodies to forsake a compromise?
