Rick,

I am not saying we are lilly white, its just that there is this concept floating around that the universe is two dimensional and we are the center of it. The theory states that through overt or covert action (or through neglect) everything that happens today in the world is our fault (but notice that nothing great or wonderful is credited). Europe, developed nations in Asia are honest and forthright and the 3rd world is full of noble savages - incapable of intrigue or evil.

The first use of chemical weapons on US forces occurred in WW1. How do I know? My grandfathers unit was hit by mustard gas and he spent 25 years in VA hospitals before dying.

The concept of going beyond this horror to biological weapons also came from Europe and Asia. And yes - we tried to get as much info as we could from Nazi and Japanese doctors and scientists. Was this ethical or moral - not to me, but we knew the Soviets were researching these same techniques big-time, there was a sense of urgency.

Yes Anthranx and other bio-warfare vaccines are experimental. And yes unfortunately they probably also have side effects.

My grandfathers unit would have appreciated the alternative.

The real crime with GWS was simply not acknowledging its possibility and looking after the Vets.

Trying to rationalize some way to blame ourselves is just plain stupid, but thats as American as Apple pie.

Remember: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" -- Richard Feynman, physicist.
