I want to have two computers share a phone line so both can be online at the same time. Is this made possible with a router?

Yes and no. If it is a DSL line then that is a great way to go, and any number of routers can do the trick (I think if you are talking about doing this on a home network, though, you will also need network cards and either wiring or the hardware for a wireless home network).

If you are talking about an analog phone line, my advice is not to bother. Both connections running simultaneously will fight over limited bandwidth and ultimately neither user will have much access IMO.

I live in an area where broadband is not yet available in any form, and sharing the phone line for our two pc's has proved unworkable despite the fact that we have them networked together.
