Mary,

"Asensio said that a big red flag to a suspect company is a company that responds in any way to shorters or "bashers."

Just for the sake of argument, suppose you were the CEO of a company that was being unfairly maligned. A small but vocal group of bashers chose your company because it is relatively unknown and the stock is thinly traded.

Personal attacks are made upon you and your staff. Spurious charges that some members of your staff have prison records. They make ominous references to a possible SEC investigation. Somehow they dig up information that you spent time in the Betty Ford clinic ten years earlier. They publish a photo of you and Martha Stewart standing together....smiling.

How would you react? With silence or righteous indignation?
