The review is prompted by concerns for continued operating losses and cash consumption as a result of depressed pricing and lackluster demand for its main product, dynamic random access memory, the primary market for which is personal computers.

2:07PM NVIDIA cut to Hold at CSFB -- secular shift (NVDA) 17.19 -2.88: -- Update -- CSFB downgrades to HOLD from Buy and cuts price target to $20 from $52. Firm cites the secular shift it believes is happening towards low-end and mid-tier PCs. CSFB lowers its JulyQ est to $0.29 from $0.45, FY03 to $1.32 from $1.76, and introduces a FY04 est of $1.29. Notes that it believes ATYT is ahead of NVDA by at least 1 month on delivering the next generation discrete GPU.

9:29AM Advanced Micro: SG Cowen sees short-term trading opportunity (AMD) 8.97: SG Cowen believes the rollout of the 64 bit "Hammer" processor families beginning at the end of the year could provide a short-term trading opportunity; however, firm remains negative long-term regarding the microprocessor outlook given the maturity of the industry and on AMD specifically given the enormous losses the co is expected to report in coming qtrs.

9:17AM Applied Micro upgraded at Needham (AMCC) 4.03: Needham upgrades to HOLD from Sell based on a positive long-term outlook and recent share price weakness.

1:42PM Micrel (MCRL) 14.84 +0.50: Soundview turns cautious on MCRL following firm's initiation of coverage 5/28 with Buy rating; now expects delayed recovery in H2. Checks indicate back-to-back PC school build has been late to materialize, suggesting cautious view on MCRL's computing segment (32% of total revenues) and Ethernet business. Firm continues to believe MCRL could post better performance later in H2 due to typical seasonality and start of margin leverage, but expects stock to remain choppy as visibility unfolds ... Soundview now rates MCRL a Neutral following a ratings system change.

12:45PM Lehman on Semiconductors : Firm moves to Market Weight/Slight Overweight position from Underweight in belief that valuations are finally low enough since firm first started to become negative on sector in Q300. Firm upgrades Micron (MU 20.12 +1.12) and Integrated Circuit (ICST 19.59 +1.59) to STRONG BUY from Buy; raises rating on Fairchild (FCS 23.60 +1.70) and Conexant (CNXT 1.34 +0.25) to BUY from Market Perform; anticipates adding more names to list as ests come down further along with stock prices; fundamentally believes that global macroeconomic picture is improving and IT spending will follow suit, but only in Y03 at the earliest.
