dear delete-
"I attribute it to lack of confidence in the management of affairs by the United States, its unilateralism, the pursuit of national self-interests and not living up to the responsibility of being the dominant financial power in the world, not taking care of the system."
  that's pretty much a bull's eye.
speaking of bullies, james garner was interviewed by charlie rose tuesday night (are you related to charlie, rose?)
when asked about GWB, garner said he was disappointed and compared his world leadership style to that of an 8th grade bully. i'm with maverick.
i know you know the rest of what i'm about to say already joser so you don't need to read further.
it's common sense and should be obvious that when you put national self-interest ahead of global interest - you are setting your nation up for a BIG fall.
it's not just about economics it's about the value and quality of life. if you apply the same principles to economics or any other natural system you get the same predictable outcome... if you do not serve the whole system as your first priority, you will not survive as an individual and separate entity.
i have absolutely NO confidence in GWB or his administration to bring the US out of the tail-spin they've put it in. their actions are not consistent with the above stated principle. they do not appear to have the well being of all humanity as their first priority. it will take 20 years just to undo the hurt they've done in the past two and a half. that's probably the rest of my life, if i live that long.
it's depressing as hell. we coulda been a contender. we coulda put a chicken in every pot on every table in the world. we could have helped every nation in the world to become more literate, educated and productive in the global marketplace. we could have used the disaster of september 11 as an opportunity to rally the entire world into supporting an international legal system of justice and human rights on a global scale... to protect and defend the rights of all people on the planet against the likes of the vigilantes who stole and crashed de planes.
the world would have been a much, much safer place than it is today without spending one extra penny on military might. we'd have had the backing and resources of almost every country in the world joining together to apprehend and bring these and other vigilantes to trails.
but noooooo. we had to go kick some ass without due process. we had to rush out like a mob seeking vengeance and unleash megatons of lethal force upon the first country who said, "hey wait a minute - let's see some evidence. let us hold a fair trail and you may present your case. if you want justice, you must seek it in a fair and just manner."
we murdered thousands just because their government suggested and demanded that we follow the due process of law in the manner we all regard as one of the most important values our own country is founded upon and governed by. why in HELL would we abandon our most precious core values for vigilante justice? could it be because we have either weak, unwise or manipulative leadership? precisely.
might does not make right. and when might acts unilaterally and unfairly, there are always thousands of bullied, mistreated, downtrodden, disenfranchised people who will sacrifice their lives to bring the bully to his knees. there always has been, there always will be. no reign of terror or force has ever held dominion on this planet without being attacked and eventually subdued by violent and/or non-violent opposition.
the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness is not just an american concept, it is the natural instinctual desire born in all living things... and the simple, single "secret of life" is that we are ALL interconnected and interdependent and that we will never succeed at reaching our goal unless and until we put the lives, liberties and happiness of ALL ahead of individual self interest.
let the pain and agony of these first four miserable years of the 21st century drive that lesson home to every heart and brain on this planet. may it be logged in every historical database ever accessed in the future so that we remember it long enough to get us through the next 96 years of this century in service to something larger and grander than our individual egos and protected vaults of personal material wealth.
oh, and... don't elect anyone to lead or represent you who doesn't understand the concept of putting service to ALL of life first before protecting his or your individual butt.
