PPT can hope to do is make the decline more "orderly."

Yes they can buy futures on a few indexes. However, that leaves smaller companies or companies that should be allowed to fail or companies with accounting "errors" -- and there a lot of those that restated earnings -- that should be excluded from benefiting from the government assisted buying as major opportunities for shorting.

TYC after they spin off CIT, IMCL, NVDA, VRTS and others don't appear at first glance to get any of the benefits from the PPT buying and are going to be heavily vetted as mutual funds and foreign investors leave the US markets.
