FOCUS-EMCORE sues PricewaterhouseCoopers
(Adds comment from PricewaterhouseCoopers)

NEW YORK, Nov 18 (Reuters) - EMCORE Corp. (NasdaqNM:EMKR - news) said on Thursday the company filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for violating rules which bar accountants from owning shares in companies they audit.

EMCORE's law firm Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP said the suit claims that some PricewaterhouseCoopers partners, including Chief Executive James Schiro, owned about 140,000 shares of EMCORE during an audit of the company in preparation for an offering to raise $75 million.

PricewaterhouseCoopers spokesman David Nestor said EMCORE's suit was baseless and the accounting firm intended to fight it. ``We think it is without substance and without merit.''

EMCORE's shares were up 1/2 at 14-5/8 in Thursday afternoon trading on the Nasdaq stock market.
