Allen, Every one of the 14 were part of a criminal conspiracy of which the Clinton's were major beneficiaries. They essentially pled "no contest" to tax evasion charges connected to the debts eaten by other members of the conspiracy by paying the IRS fines instead of fighting them.
Had Webster Hubbell (a member of Clinton's Administration) lived up to his plea agreement (or Clinton's lapdog Reno had done diddley to enforce said plea agreement) and/or Susan McDougal had answered a simple yes or no question (Did Bill or Hill know X?) both Clintons would have been indicted. The fact that the Clintons' stonewalling, obfuscation and witness buying (What did McDougal get for sitting in jail all that time? We know what Hubbell got, what was that several hundred grand consulting fee, huh?) was successful doesn't mean they aren't guilty.
re>Starr's investigation failed to turn up any evidence sufficient to indict or impeach the President for any crimes, except for lying under oath about an affair.<
The fact that the House did not bring charges relating to campaign finance (buddhist nuns, chicom donations etc.), FBI files (this was an obvious violation of the law), RAPE!!!, etc. does not mean Starr's investigation failed. It only means that the House chose to not pursue those charges. You still owe Ken Starr an apology.
re>except for lying under oath about an affair<
Actually, lying under oath and suborning perjury to deny a citizen justice in a court of law, is more than simply lying about an affair. It is a disgusting assault on the rule of law by the very person who has taken an oath to uphold that rule of law.
re > I just don't see how he can be seen to be the cause of everything that's wrong with our country today.<
Classic strawman, Allen, as no one has claimed that Clinton is the cause of everything wrong with our country today. That his malfeasance has contributed mightily to the level of crap cannot be denied.
re >The anti-Clinton mania continues unabated here. It's very convenient to have such a scapegoat, I suppose.<
Labeling an insistence on facts "anti-Clinton mania" only calls into question your objectivity and ability to think critically. Clinton's legacy is one of malfeasance, tawdry adultery, "wag the dog" cruise missiles, drug dealer pardons, unprincipled "triangulation", and contempt for the very citizens who elected him. Only a man filled with contempt for the public could first claim to have "smoked but not inhaled" and later wagged his finger at us while lying "I did not have sex with that woman."
William Jefferson Clinton is not a scapegoat, (though he is certainly a goat) he is an object lesson which the left, and apparently you, have yet to take to heart. |
