Poet,

Just to muddy the water regarding sharing internet connection with a slow analog phone line: I wouldn't give up so easily.

I did this for about a year before getting an ISDN connection, which also might be available in your area. The ISDN is a big improvement, especially since my usual connection speed had only been 26.4k.

I found the sharing to be satisfactory even at the slow speeds. If both parties are constantly doing large downloads or playing online graphic intensive games, it won't suffice, but I doubt even a non-shared, slow analog connection would be adequate for this. Light browsing, email and instant messaging worked fine for me. Even with one user running real time applications (QCharts), the other could still browse pretty much like normal, normal being pretty slow just like before sharing at 26.4. If your connection is a standard analog 56k that actually runs in the forties, I think sharing is a viable option. At 64k ISDN (usually running at actually 60k) two users rarely notice any slow down competing for bandwidth.

That's my perspective, different from Mad Dog's.

Esteban
