Around 4,000 backers of the former president's Socialist Party gathered in Belgrade's central Republic Square and marched to the Serbian government headquarters, where some threw rocks, firecrackers and eggs at the building guarded by riot police.

The demonstrators then continued their protest. They chanted "Slobo! Slobo!" and waved pictures of other war crimes indictees such as ex-Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his military chief Ratko Mladic.
