Expanding on you good illustration of greed.
What controls the satisfying of greed. I proffer two basic forces.
I call them under God and not under God.
Under God some will be restrained because satisfying there greed in certain ways well make them feel bad about themselves of suffer eternal sanctions. In addition all the not under God restraints also apply.
Not under God some fear the sanctions of the state and or rebuke of family, friends and the community.

Not under God greed and acting on greed is reduced to getting found out and a risk reward evaluation. All individuals in their life will likely be exposed to, hmmmm opportunities to commit a crime of greed and it will be clear that in the secular world no-one will ever know.

In the secular not under God world many times getting away with greed by questionable legal means is admired.

Under God no-one get's away with anything.

Expanding this idea to what is moral and what is logical.

The value of saying Under God for all is good to remind one of honesty and character and the fact the our founding fathers based all the laws created on the fact that God gave every individual the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

If God is not the justification for the laws and what is right and wrong then all conduct is only controlled by a risk reward analysis. This is the logic of the natural law. The survival of the fittess and no weak individual has any rights except as the protection afforded by sanction, if 12 say someone did it.

That is the morality and logic of America under God and not under God.
