Poet,

The other responses are correct in that it is possible to make such a shared connection work. I do a lot of music downloading, so it is hard enough for me to get text pages to load while music is downloading on the background on one PC. With two PC's it just grinds to a halt. If you and your daughter are both just browsing text or posting messages and stuff like that, it might work, though I suspect it will still be slower than you like it. For the same money as the network gear would cost you could buy a second phone line for awhile (here that is about 10 to 20 a month) and get a cheap backup ISP for the times when more than one person is online.

The links that thecow posted will get you up and running if you choose the networked/one ISP route, and also have some helpful troubleshooting advice.

Good luck to you.
