You will likely be hurt, just not near as much. If you've owned for 10 years you're probably fine if you like where you live


There is always something of a bubble in real-estate when interest rates fall to very low levels, but the real value of real-estate was dramatically increased when the tax laws were changed for appreciation of primary residences. Consider the value of a corporate bond vs. a tax-free municipal. Housing functions a lot like a zero coupon bond as an investment.

That's the change that took place for housing, and it's real, and it looks permanent.
