| I was worrying for awhile, as primary caregiver, that my distaste for baby talk had caused some of the problem that I had to deal with. I decided that baby talk is not universal among parents, and there is no clear causality, so I dropped it. I decided, finally, that his "fussiness" was more the problem. He was the sort of child who clammed up if you tried to correct his pronunciation. For a long time, he was so fussy about his handwriting that he would waste a lot of time erasing and recopying (he is much better about that now), and he is very good at long, meticulous projects, assuming that he finds it interesting, getting things "just so". I honestly think he declined to talk more than necessary because he didn't like souding childish. Now, he is much more talkative, since he pretty much sounds adult....... |
