My oldest is like that. If she can't do something well she doesn't want to do it. She almost quit the flute because she didn't think she was progressing fast enough. We got her a superb teacher and luckily she made enough progress to please herself (and to put her ahead of most of her class) so she kept with it. But it was touch and go for a while. It is good to have the desire for achievement and mastery, but it can get in the way when you want it all Now, Not Later, and Not with ANY work.
