The father felt that the inclusion of 'under God' in a pledge recited by nearly all students was an influence on his child that violated the Constitutional separation of Church and State. Whether she participated or not is not the issue; it is the exposure, especially to such a young child, that is the violation.

What if the pledge said, instead of 'under God', the opposite? If it said 'under no God'? You would be screaming bloody murder, and I would be agreeing with you. Because the point is that the Federal government must take NO POSITION as far as religion, either positive or negative.

Get it? It is not an issue of God/no God, but a government that is completely neutral on the issue.
