a) I didn't ask about rationalization and denial until after you brought them up.

b) Your interpretation doesn't stand scrutiny because he uses "we" at all times in the newsletter, not just when talking about failures.

c) is false because it is based on the false premise in b), and because it is a plausibility argument. Not everything that's plausible is true.
