He was watching her perform on a TV monitor from his dressing room while he was getting ready to go out. She was rocking the crowd's socks off and he says to the guy next to him, "not bad for a bird."

I think he knew he had a lot to live up to.

I remember going to a Deep Purple concert and the backup band was this band nobody had heard of called Aerosmith. They brought the house down! When Deep Purple came on with their sluggish-by-comparison sound and stupid smoke and light show, the crowd was hollering for Aerosmith to come back on. I felt embarrassed for em after awhile, it got so bad.
