GZ has explained the basic reason behind the 1954 addition of "under God" to the Pledge. This was a period of witch hunts(McCarthyism) and so it was pretty easy to get the Pledge changed. GZ has not taken the logical conclusion that if the reason for the words was to differentiate the Pledge from communist pledges then there is no reason to have the words in the pledge anymore. In fact one could argue that since the words "under God" exclude polytheism, atheism, and agnosticism then "under God" includes monotheism and by indirection Islam and Allah. Another twist to the theocratic problem of having the same God as the Jews and the Moslems.
