OT - re: travel with a one-way ticket.

I am about to make my flight arrangements for the fall and am unsure as to whether I will return to my point of origin after 4 - 6 months in Bali and Thailand. Considering all the possibilities, it will cost me the least to change my mind if I buy a one-way ticket now. It has been suggested to me that this may put me in a suspicious light with authorities who are on the lookout for terrorists (although the smart terrorist would certainly buy a round-trip ticket to avert suspicion). Does anyone have any perspective on how much hassle this might be? Is this really a reason to get a potentially more expensive round-trip ticket?

TIA,

vt
