They changed the rules no more allowing amortization of goodwill, but on the other hand, once it is clear those assets do not have the real value carried on the book (a yearly evaluation), they take it all off. My guess is that for many companies the absence of goodwill amortization will mean higher than expected earnings, I doubt analysts know what amortization is, so they probably did not figure these in their numbers. It is all phony anyhow...
