Verrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting: Helps explain to me why Dell, Intc, and sometimes Msft seem to run parallel to the NAS, since they are such a high percentage of the index. Am not in full agreement that they cannot retain the present percentage of the Nas. Dell and Msft sell directly to the public, where the companies in major trouble are those that sell to the cable and phone companies who can put huge pressures on suppliers. People pay for technology thru the billings of phone, ISP,Tv, and wireless companies and are very conscious of the prices and I think a major problem is that those companies were not able to raise prices in this environment nor achieve their expected growth rates and thus are struggling to survive since they had no contingency plans. I am in general agreement with thoughts of the market is going down. But will disagree that people will buy plain vanilla computers. Looking at the local new trucks, they are buying the unique and loaded ones.Big diesels, four doors, elongated, dual rear tires. You dont need those just to go down the road -its a status thing And if one can get a "loaded" computer for a $25 or $100 more per extra component those will sell. Who needs a 15 inch screen as opposed to a 12 in ?, Yet they sold like hotcakes and Dell now makes 18 inch screens available for portables. Dell's main MO consists of "souping up" computers, thats how he got started -by adding new capabilities people asked for and continues 15 years later. Sig |
