I just did want to make it perfectly clear that EVERYONE'S views are welcome here, in case some newcomer took you seriously and actually believed, erroneously, that only certain topics were up for discussion.
Control (and hubris): While the writer who starts the thread is not actually in charge of it, it seems like threads fade when their originators leave, unless... the originator did not inject any personality or interesting writing style or feelings... In order to nurture... and grow a thread, some of the energy of the person who started it needs to be there, and in order to do that, some of the things I am interested in need to be here sometimes, or the energy isn't right or very real.
Our Deplorable Elitism: Alexa, I said I felt sorry for your children, because even though they are getting love and nurturing, they are also being taught an exclusive, condescending view of humanity.
More Elitism (but on whose part?): When I started this thread I envisioned it as a place where everyone was welcome. It was not created as a forum where a small group of elitist college graduates with almost no understanding of what is actually happening on the planet right now, or much concern either about global issues, would discuss almost nothing in smug tones ad nauseum so that the common people they look down upon would not be able to participate.
Assigned Topics: I am fascinated by ArtNewspaper's report that some of the Van Goghs, even one in the Sunflower series, may quite well be fakes. What do you think about that? You could definitely be our resident art historian.
Disapproved Topics: There are a lot of very civilized people discussing things they vehemently disagree about on this thread, and I'm really happy to see how polite we all stay for the most part. Terrence, I have to agree [with whom?] that your popping in to infer nasty things and then disappearing again is not cool here, okay?...
ME, ME, ME: Endless discussions of designer sunglasses, bizarre recipes, opera, and smelly fruits just are not interesting to me.
