On the other hand if the majority imposes its religious ideas (no matter how trivial these ideas may be) on a minority by law then that law is in violation of the first amendment.

In the US we have 6 major national holidays. 4 of them are New years day, Memorial day, 4th of July, and Labor day. These have little or no religious affiliation and Thanksgiving has a very slight implication of religious overtones.

However, Christmas is one of the 6 major national holidays. Would you say that this is a violation of the 1st amendment?

Just testing the waters, not trying cause trouble.
