The trouble with the Raymond james estimates is that they only cover the largest producers. As we have seen in the last gas price spike, all sorts of smaller producers can start drilling and producing very fast.

It may be, though, that most of that lower-level expansion has now stopped with the decline of NG prices, and that many of the wells brought on line in the last two years are starting to deplete.

These are just my seat-of-the-pants guesses that are based on quarterly reports of maybe 20 smaller producers that I own or follow. Some of the Canadian smaller companies, however, have continued to increase production.

I don't know any way to document this accurately without doing a lot more research than I have time to do on this subject. One would think that it's an obvious line of investigation for someone who could make a good deal of money just using the information for his own investments.

I was continually drawing attention to the ramping up of gas production during the last price spike, and hardly anyone agreed with me.

Maybe Jim_p has better information on this.
