Itanium is an expensive server chip so target market should be large corporations and research, right? In normal environment large corporation are staying away from untested chips and platforms for a couple of years at least. Current environment would virtually preclude transitions to new platforms unless new platforms are far more cost effective. Research might be willing to use itanium but there is not enough money there.
You are far more familiar with itanium so I would be interested to know if you think that itanium is more cost-effective than p4 and why?
Just mu 2 cents
