Re: AMERICA'S conservatives see the creation of the first global criminal court as another step towards a sinister "world government" that threatens US sovereignty.

Nothing new under the sun... Do you remember who was the first to propose a League of Nations? It was US President Woodrow Wilson in the aftermath of WWI in 1919... It was part of his grand "Fourteen Points" scheme to avoid any future world war. He was a Democrat, of course. But former Republican President William (Big Bill) Taft supported the idea --Taft actually longed for a League to Enforce Peace!!

Henry Cabot Lodge and Theodore Roosevelt preferred a more unilateralist approach (the so-called New Nationalism) whereas insurgents (Bryan, La Follette) were staunch isolationists who believed the US could afford to steer clear of any foreign entanglements...

Anyway, my point is that the UN Frankenstein, somehow, is the offspring of American idealism.
