Albert,

The English don't like to acknowledge their long history of abuse in the Middle East, so they choose instead to find others to blame.

As with the other former European powers, the loss of power has been traumatic and they express it in the form of jealousy against the US. But everyone knows that if you want to find a real example of ethnic cleansing, genocide or human rights abuse, nobody does it better than the Europeans.

Having said that, the English press has turned somewhat neutral in recent weeks. President Clinton's recent remarks that "Arafat was never interested in peace" seem to have started the trend, and last week's bus bombings were a little hard to defend by even the most jealous of Brits.

On a lighter note, the reaction of England to the US success in the World Cup is quite devastating. The one last thing they held clearly had over the US is now gone, and the victory of 1776 is now complete ;^)

Cheers
