We really do need to think about how to improve the performance of schools rather than political win-loss here, as alien a concept as that may be to many. Some experimentation with vouchers and charter schools is great, not necessarily as end in itself, but as a way for us to get a better understanding of what we should do to fix what we have. Putting so much effort into building an alternative school system could end up being just so much wheel spinning.
