On the contrary, the retail report for July is not good at all. After car sales are removed, we are looking at a rather modest increase. And regionally, the data shows the midwest at the national average, the south below the national average, and the Northeast well above the average, and the West slightly over the average.

I'm sure you realize the geographic strengths of WMT are the Midwest(average), and the South(below average), while the West and the Northeast, (especially the Northeast) are WMT's weaker areas. And these areas which helped boost the averages to these modest levels really will not help WMT.

A little fingernail scratching at the surface still leads to some fundamental obstacles ahead.

The market intitially responded to the retail figures negatively sending WMT down 5/8 in the day, only to come back to even as what was reported as some program buying on the DOW. Not only are the technicals continuing their war cries, but the fundamentals are starting to show themselves as well for a correction. LF
