The problem with that article is that in no school that I know of is a child required to recite the pledge. In fact, the Court has said they can't be required to. So all they are required to do is stand respectfully and listen while other children recite the pledge.

The upshot being not that those who don't want to say "under God" are required to -- they aren't -- but that those who want to are prohibited from saying it. That's not freedom of religion -- it's denial of freedom of religion.
