Isn't that always the case with religious preferences, it is the parents who care most? And are we not bound to offer no insult, whenever possible, to diverse views of religion, or non-religion? I had two JW children last year, but they came late every day to miss the pledge. Most parents, even if the pledge offends them, do not have the support of a community behind them to allow them to do that. These children also had to be in a different area whenever we had school parties, or they simply stayed home. That is a hard thing to do to a child without a religious community- like a lone agnostic or atheist child who may not have the support of a congregation- as the JW's have. Those children and their families who would be upset by the pledge are very isolated, seeing as how they are minorities, and frequently minorities without group support system- exactly the sort of people you would think or constitution was designed to protect. The fact that the people who do not want to say the pledge are apparently sod despised, is precisely why they need to be protected from the tyranny of the majority.
