You are correct that broadband is a fatter pipe - the I and II distinction is how the Internet-related companies saw their market, first E-mail and static Web pages then an effort to move into audio/video-related applications. But the only real-time interactive applications with widespread appeal are basic chat. We don't want to watch movies, TV shows or commercials on our PCs, so the money that goes with mass media isn't there.

I still think if broadband's cost was cut in half and getting it installed was not a marathon ordeal, the home penetration could grow dramatically. And wireless bandwidth could also drive much more demand - eventually.

It's all going to take much, much longer than originally planned.

On SBC, it's only a small position and I share some of your reservations. I am more interested in the steady cash flow from their local and regional operations rather than any big growth into long distance.
