"Youre reply is most incredible... if we didn't use the atomic bomb in Japan, it would have cost our military countless lives and months, maybe years, of unnecessary fighting... remember, they started the war against us with Pearl Harbor... we don't start wars, we finish them....." War of Independence, Spanish-American war, Viet Nam war, were all started by the USA. The Viet Nam war was finished alright but by the USA? As for the atomic bombs dropped on Japan, it's theoretical as to what would have happened if they had not been dropped. That bomb nr.1 saved American lives is certain. Was bomb nr.2 necessary? I don't know. No way to find out. Certainly the use of these 2 weapons helped to prevent their use later on. And that is good. The effects of radiation were high lighted as well. All of this at a tremendous cost to Japanese civilians.
