New venture for the company - 04:58 PM ET 07/15/97 Metromedia takes over Berlin radio station BERLIN, July 15 (Reuter) - U.S. media company Metromedia International Inc has taken over Berlin talk radio station NewsTalk 93.6, the German station said on Tuesday. Metromedia bought 70 percent of the station's shares while 30 percent remain with media investor Frank Otto and media company Europa Plus GmbH. "Metromedia International Inc actually only wanted to run radio stations in eastern Europe," company president Carl Brazell said in a statement. "With the purchase of 70 percent of NewsTalk 93.6, we are now in the city that is the connecting link between East and West in one of the most interesting radio markets in Europe," Brazells said. NewsTalk said the deal still needed the approval of the Berlin media supervisory board. Metromedia International Inc is a unit of Metromedia International Telecommunications Inc, which counts among its assets a U.S. cable company and telecommunications firms in central and eastern Europe and in the former Soviet Union.
