Mad2,

Wonderful article that explicitly points out many of the impediments to a smooth recovery. However, I think that even these guys are being optimistic with their estimates of future returns. I see the markets dying the slow death of a thousand slashes rather than just some big downward spike to correct valuations. There's too many forces working against any potential "V" shaped recovery, so it looks to me like the dreaded "L" (with a very extended lower leg) will rule the immediate future. I still greatly fear panic-selling, even though it now looks more and more like there exists counter-forces to panic-selling that might prevent that from happening. We'll see, I guess. However, the bottom line is that cash is currently king, and looks like it will remain so for the coming years.
