One reason productivity keeps rising, is due to what I call the rising slave mentality in the US. I have been observing people working since the late 1950s, and never before since that time have people been so afraid of losing their jobs, and willing to work overtime or even off the clock, give up vacation time, and even give up their basic rights, all in the name of trying to save their jobs, or beat the competition by any means.... Others are just plain afraid of their own shadows..... It's pretty sickening stuff. In fact, in one very strong union shop I know of, they have somehow managed to have about 7 or 8% of the employees work off the clock for about an hour. Then there is Walmart, which is becoming famous for having some employees work without pay. And what is even sicker in my opinion, is that some of those employees have stated they were glad to do it! So we have now have the growing slave mentality growing in America, helping out those falsely inflated productivity numbers. (IMO)
