It's interesting how one's perspective changes over time.

In the 60s when I was in the anti-war movement, I would probably, I regret now to say, have laughed at the foolishness of those soldiers.

Now that I have seen enough of the price that must be paid for freedom, and have my own son in the military willing to sacrifice his life if necessary for the sake of his family and his country, I have nothing but awe for such courage and love of freedom.

We do our children no favor by letting them become educated without understanding the enormous price that has been paid over the past thousands of years for the freedoms we take for granted, and the need for that price to continue to be paid daily by those willing to lay their lives on the line for the freedoms we tend to take so lightly.
