Maybe Dell wouldn't be as prosperous if they had to support both Intel and AMD-based designs.

I know, this is a weak argument, but it does underscore a point. AMD could use a good partnership with a strong OEM if they are to break out of their bottom-feeder reputation. As it is, they continue to be used as a bargaining chip for OEMs to get sweeter deals out of Intel. This is a direct result of AMD using price as their primary weapon of competition, and it's hardly a sustainable business model.
