But that may be because you are not yourself religious.

If you were, you would understand that for some religious people, every act of their lives is an act of worship. Theyr whole lives are a religious statement. Everything they do is religious.

And I disagree about MLK. You've heard his speeches. Those are not secular speeches. (He made many of them on public property, sanctioned by public permits.) Religion was not a tag-on to the civil rights movement, it was the core of it. (The Southern Christian Leadership Council, commonly known as the SCLC, was named that for a reason.) You can no more separate religion from King than you can separate religion from the Declaration of Independence.
