It is hard to compare old timers who played in segregated leagues with modern players. Today's hitters face 90+ fastballers every day. Just compare the period of late 60's early 70's where pitchers dominated hitters to get an idea how much more competitive today's game is played.

I am not taken anything away from Williams, Dimaggio and Mantle but you just can't compare to today's higher level of athleticism.
