So I am actually working on the new updated web site ... have been over the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping to have it live in the next week or so ... before I head out on two more weeks on the road! ;-)

I got HumanXtensions going, and have been doing numerous presentations on wearables and mobile computing. Out of this I have landed a variety of consulting projects on related software and wireless ... but no wearable sales ... yet.

I also have been spending a lot of time really learning the Xybernaut MA V ... and it's limitations. I have developed an additional battery pack, and a variety of different backpacks and bags for carrying the wearables. I have also had to work through how to get more connectivity, and to configure the units for optimal use as a wearable ... even various Win2k settings that have to be altered for optimal software use.

Some of the issues that I am seeing are extremely limited connectivity. The MA V has only a single USB port, a single FireWire port and then a Compact Flash slot.

I have been working on some "extreme" demonstrations for a couple of potential customers where I am now running out of ports! I have had to explore how to add a powered USB hub to the set up ... something that causes all sorts of headaches.

I am now doing most of my work with a MA V and it's "holster" ... that adds an additional USB port and the PCMCIA slot.

I also spent quite a while working on getting Linux working on the MA V, however they do not yet have full driver support for the various touch-panels ... and have not spent much time making this a complete solution.

I am finding interest in the MA Vs ... but not to the purchasing point yet. I see this as being related to the economy in general ... less "risk" oriented spending ... and also the pricing in general. People are still a little hesitant on a $5k-$6k purchase of one of these units.

Yes and no. I am constantly hit by issues that seem to indicate that they have little experience and bandwidth for truly building a distribution channel. When things go wrong, I have to ship units back to the factory ... I can't seem to get details on some installation issues ... I get no notice that the IBM/Calypso display is no longer available - instead finding out because it simply has been dropped from the latest price list ... I don't get to resell the poma ... the poma has a nice head mounted display - that I can't get for the MA V even though it was shown at Comdex Chicago ... and on and on.

Yes ... there is a lack of communications and interaction with the channel that is frustrating.

I will say that the new Atigo is a very good direction though! It was funny that about two or three months ago I finally realized that the value of these WinCE Tablets on the market was to be "remote displays" for wearable computers. I have been talking with ViewSonic for a while, and now Xybernaut releases the Atigo. It's more costly than the ViewSonic unit, however it does have the outdoor daylight readable display.

IMHO, what we are seeing is a company that has an internal conflict with how to be "offensive" and aggressive in creating a market, while holding on to the old ways of being "defensive" with their patents, and IP protection. Markets are not created and expanded by preventing competition ... they are created by welcoming competition and being better! ;-)

In my experiences and research these two very different goals can cause a lot of difficulty in being successful. C'mon ... do they seriously think that IBM is going to be controlled by Xybernaut through threats of patents and litigation?
