UNIVEC Engages Former U.S. Senator as Consultant
GARDEN CITY, NY--(BUSINESS WIRE) -July 7, 1997--UNIVEC (NASDAQ:UNVC) announced today that former U.S. Senator, Vance Hartke, has joined the firm as a consultant.
Hartke, an attorney, who represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1977, has led a prolific career spanning not only politics and the law, but also the arts and humanities.

Hartke, one of the most popular senators in Indiana's history, served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention seven times. Hartke served 18 years in the U.S. Senate and previously, he served as mayor of the City of Evansville, Ind. (1956-58); Democratic County Chairman for Vanderburgh County, Ind. (1952-58); and deputy prosecuting attorney for Vanderburgh County (1950-51).
While in the U.S. Senate, Hartke served on some of its powerful committees including Finance and Commerce, and chaired the U.S. Senatorial Campaign Committee in 1960 and 1962.
Hartke received his law degree from Indiana University and his undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville, both earned with honors. He has been the recipient of dozens of honorary degrees and awards, including a citation for exceptional merit from the American Trial Lawyers Association, a gold medal award from Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a humanitarian award from Disabled American Veterans. Hartke also has authored several publications, including You and Your Senator and The American Crisis in Vietnam.

UNIVEC manufactures and distributes a line of auto-destruct syringes which are designed to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis B which occurs through the reuse of contaminated syringes. The company is currently completing binding agreements with Kaiser Permanente and other national health care providers for exclusive distribution of the auto-destruct syringes. These distribution agreements mark the first stage of Univec's strategy to gain exposure to the domestic medical resupply network and indicate a broadening national and international acceptance of Univec's product line. |
