Petz, Re: "the Itanium II looks OK, but its difficult to compare the TPmC, SAP score and SPECweb99 results since there's no system configuration details. Where exactly are the Itanium II numbers coming from, since they don't seem to be official SPEC numbers?"
These will obviously be tweaked out scores, but so are the scores for all the other submissions. A vendor isn't likely to submit a score on a system that they haven't tweaked, at least a little. So that makes things a little more comparable. As you should know, benchmarking has always been a "game" of sorts, and Intel is winning this game hands down. The configuration is not that relevant, unless, of course, it needed a terabyte of memory to get those scores, which I doubt. Besides, those scores were early, and leaked by the Inquirer. Once they get posted officially, you should revisit them.
