Mark,

I am also finding this market difficult. Fortunately started buying gold stocks and averaged down during the sell off. Did some trading during the run up in the stocks. I am holding a core positions in companies that pay nice dividends.

Also was collecting TGG, FAX and FCO for the last few years and have a nice yields on these investments.

I recently bought AAUK, it would not surprise me if this stock trades lower, but the dividend at my price is around 3% and am willing to add at lower prices. The basic materials are doing fairly well at the moment and IMO this stock is the Cadillac of metals and diamond investing.

Another stock that has taken a hit lately is SFD. There are some dark clouds hanging over the company which IMO are temporary in nature. The management team has been very successful in the past and I believe they will continue to add shareholder value in the future.

I also bought MRK, sold covered calls as well as bought some out of the money puts. Was able to set up this position for a return of 8%.

That is about it. I am now looking for oil, natural gas or energy preferreds that pay over 8.25% yield. These are hard to find since the street does not cover this area and one has to dig to insure there are good cash flows to continue paying the dividends. I own APJ but they are calling it this month. Currently hold TLM preferred A and have offers to buy more at lower prices.

Joan
