Chinu, the calls for Arafat to go were not serious. The columnist was being sarcastic.

And hence they are forced to change their tune, such as recognizing the existence of Israel etc

The Saudis did change their tune to the extent of trying to sound like peacemakers to America. After all, they badly needed a change of subject, the previous subject being, why did fifteen of their nationals blow up the WTC and the Pentagon at the behest of OBL, another of their native sons? However, they did not go so far as to recognize Israel (why should they -- it's their position that they deserve to be paid big-time for the magnificant favor of recognizing Israel), promise full recognition if Israel withdrew to the 1967 borders, talk to any Israelis about the proposal, or even stop accussing Jews of killing Muslim children to make their holiday pastries in their state-run newspapers. Not much of a change of tune from where I sit.

I am optimistic. I am not so sure about you.

Like I said before, it's a sham. A total complete pig-in-a-poke, 'oh sorry, did we say we'd recognize you if you withdrew? we take it back', ludicrous, unworkable sham.

Are you sure now?
